Ottawa Valley Large Animal Clinic - Staff


Dr. Larry Butler is the senior member and founder of the Ottawa Valley Large Animal Clinic. He graduated in 1974 from the Ontario Veterinary College in Guelph and also completed a surgical internship at Cornell University. Dr. Butler’s interests include lameness, reproduction and surgery. Currently, Dr. Butler primarily works on patients on an in-clinic basis.

Dr. Megan Fine graduated from the University of Wisconsin and since then has gained a great deal of experience in all aspects of equine care. Most recently she completed an internship at Rhinebeck Equine Hospital where she remained as an associate for a year. Lameness, reproduction, intra-articular injections, emergency medicine and anesthesia are a few of the areas Megan has had experience with. Megan has additional interests in the fields of surgery, internal medicine and dentistry. She strives to become involved in client education and has had years of experience in this field through extra-curricular activities.

Dr. Andrea Kelly is originally from Nepean and is thrilled to be practicing back in the Ottawa are. While a student at the Ontario Vererinary College, she worked in the Large Animal Hospital, gaining much experience in medical and surgical case work-up and management. Being fluently bilingual, Andrea joined a pleasure horse practice east of Ottawa in 2011 after graduation. Her interests include dentistry, internal medicine & reproduction. Andrea loves spending time outdoors, especially on the water or with her two horses Aspen & Toula. She is very excited to return to the show ring with her young mare, the product of Andrea's first artificial insemination with frozen semen. She dreams of owning her own farm for her retired gelding, a few goats and a donky or two.

Kerri Watson is the senior technician at OVLAC, and is a mainstay of the clinic as a long-time employee. Kerri is also a native of the Ottawa Valley. She can be found anywhere from the barn to the office or laboratory.

Kim Benjamin, is our alternating barn manager and also is learning the ropes in the office, with great appreciation from Kerri! Kim has a pharmaceutical background and lives here in Kemptville. Along with her partner Shawn they travel the Commercial Horse Fair Circuit. On their hobby farm they have 7 of these beautiful gentle giants.

Haylea Holmes, is a registered veterinary technician who originally joined us for a placement position. After graduating from St. Lawrence College she joined us permanently. She grew up around horses and currently owns two of her own, Cowboy and Canyon. Haylea can be found in the bam, the clinic and
tagging along with the vets on the road.
