The Ottawa Valley Large Animal Clinic performs surgical procedures both in the field and at the hospital. Field surgeries include laceration repair, mass or tumour removal and routine castration. For more involved procedures, the surgery is performed at the hospital. The surgery is performed either with the horse sedated and standing, or under a general anesthetic. We use inhalant isoflurane anesthesia which is a very safe genereal anesthetic. Patients are closely monitored while under general anesthetic and during recovery in our padded recovery stall.
We do not perform colic surgery at this clinic.
